Training and positions

  • PhD: Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium, 1982
  • VIB Group leader since 1996

Research

  • In the "Camel Antibody" group of Serge Muyldermans, various aspects of antibodies within camelids are investigated:
  • In a first line of research, the ontogeny of the unique heavy-chain antibodies within camelids and the structural, biochemical and biophysical parameters of the single-domain antibody fragments, termed nanobodies (Nbs), are studied [1].
  • This knowledge is used to design novel protein constructs or to look for particular applications where the single-domain format, the stability, the interaction with non-common epitopes form an added value over other fragments derived from conventional human/mouse antibodies [2].
